Is Bogie’s walkable?

Short answer, no….Long answer, well, kinda? When future guests ask if we are walkable, my answer is, “Not really.” I expect that most are asking that with the idea of walking on a sidewalk, you know that space dedicated to pedestrians, with a fairly low incline which are few and far between here. However, I have realized that I may not be giving enough credit to the adventurous spirit of many of our guests. So, today I decided to do my exercise with the intent of showing what IS “walkable,” or better phrased, hike-able from Bogie’s. We’ve had a few guests that decided this was a fun option on either side of the days they had their Jeep rental, and also a few guests that did this instead of a taxi to town some days.

It’s almost exactly 1 mile from Bogie’s to the Centerline trailhead for Caneel Hill trail. From this trailhead you take a left to climb both Margaret Hill and Caneel Hill, the view at the look out is pretty worth it, I think. Then just past the look out is another little bench, they recently trimmed back the trees so I just had to snap a quick sweaty selfie!

Now you are on a downhill to Northshore Road, and on down to Honeymoon Beach! The journey to Honeymoon is just shy of 3 miles. The beauty of Honeymoon being in hiking distance is that they have everything you need from chairs and hammocks, to lunch and cocktails. This morning at a little before 9:00 a.m. I had the beach to myself.

From here you can relax the day away, take the golf cart ride (for a fee) to the taxi pickup location, and take the taxi home or into to town. Or you can keep going…with a couple of different options….1. Hike back up to Northshore Road and head down the hill right into town near Mongoose Junction (dining/drinks/shopping/ice cream). 2. If you are looking for a more quiet beach experience, once Honeymoon is in full swing, head back to the trail and hang a right for the Lower Lind Point Trail, this will take you to Salomon Beach. Small, quiet, and relaxing.

3. Hike past Lower Lind Point to Upper Lind Point to the lookout over Cruz Bay (I may have nicknamed it “make out bench,” do what you want with that), this is a really great sunset viewing spot. If you stay for sunset make sure you have your bug spray in your backpack, the no-see-ums love this time of day. The sun hasn’t left the sign to the lookout very legible, but it still marks the intersection. *There is also a cut through from Salomon up to the lookout, you don’t have to backtrack! The trail ends at a dirt road behind the National Park building, you’ll take a left at the road and a right at the wooden staircase.

At this point, head on into town and enjoy a delicious meal and your choice of beverage, you deserve every bite/sip, (you’ll have traveled about 4/4.5 miles depending on how far into town you venture) and let the taxi get you home!
